Scar Revision

What is scar revision surgery?

Scar revision surgery is a procedure that has the goal of minimizing a scar so that it becomes less noticeable and blends in with the rest of the skin around it in terms of tone and texture.

Scars are the visible signs left behind after a wound has finished healing. The development of scars cannot be controlled, avoided, and it is unpredictable. Patients with poor healing are prone to more obvious and disfiguring scars. Scars can be attention-seeking due to their size, shape, or location. Scars can also be projected or depressed and can have different color or texture than the skin that surrounds it.

Treatment options include topical treatments, minimally invasive procedures, and surgical revision with wound closure.

When is scar revision recommended?

Scar revision is recommended when a patient is self-conscious about a scar that is very noticeable and/or disfiguring due to its size, color, shape, texture, or raised/depressed attributes.

What are the benefits of scar revision?

Scar revision will allow the patient’s scar to be less visible and attention-seeking. The patient will gain self-confidence especially if the scar was disfiguring.
