Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

What is a mastopexy (breast lift)?

With time, your breast tissue loses elasticity and firmness. This process can be accelerated by natural occurrences such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuation. Mastopexy is the medical term for the procedure commonly known as a breast lift.

During a breast lift, the surgeon will remove excess skin around your breast and reduce the size of your areola as a means to raise and reshape your breasts. A breast lift will not increase the size of your breasts but it is possible to have a breast augmentation procedure such as implant surgery or a fat transfer done at the same time as your breast lift.

When is a breast lift recommended?

A breast lift is recommended for women who are unhappy with the position and shape of their breasts. Signs that your breasts would benefit from a breast lift include breasts with a flatter, elongated shape that is pendulum-like, nipples that fall below the breast crease when unsupported, downward-pointing nipples and areolas, stretched skin with enlarged areolas, and uneven positioning of the breasts.
